The plot actually moved forward a bit this week, and they seem to have saved everything for right near the end. I hate when shows do this. Spread your story out over the whole season, don't drag your feet and then suddenly sprint to the finish. That's a terrible idea.

Still the good guy. |
But just because the plot's moving forward doesn't mean the characters are any better, although I am coming back around to Maximus's side simply because of how shitty everyone else is. Like, whenever someone finds out that he wants super powers like everyone else, they suddenly hate him. What the fuck, guys? If all your friends had super powers and you didn't, I'm pretty sure you'd want them too. Especially if everyone treated you with pity and contempt for not having them, which they do.
|
Hey everyone, that guy's back! Remember that guy? |
Oh, and it turns out the green guy from episode one didn't actually die, and Black Bolt has known that the whole time but didn't tell anyone. He also knew Maximus was going to stage a coup and didn't tell anyone. He also has a secret bunker that he prepared for just this eventuality and didn't tell anyone. Black Bolt is the fucking worst. The rest of them are slave-owning aristocrats, but he goes the extra mile to be a giant dick to everyone.
|
I just thought this was a neat shot. |
So the Black Bolt has this plan, and part of it is that he organises a meeting with Maximus. The monarchists, for some reason, expect Maximus to follow the rules and treat them fairly, which obviously he does not, but I think Black Bolt expected that and that was somehow part of his ridiculously convoluted plan? Anyway, this results in Maximus getting his human scientist with him on the moon.
|
"It's going to be so cool when we both have super powers, right?" |
But like I said, everyone who finds out that Maximus wants super powers hates that, and that includes Auran. Maximus is all "why do you care what my motives are? I'm still doing all the stuff we planned" and she's like "yeah, but I only liked you because you don't have super powers" and that pretty much just makes him want super powers even more because literally everyone treats him like a freak or a novelty, even the one person he thought was genuinely on his side.
|
"We just going to stand here or what?" |
Then Karnak contacts Auran and he's got some plan to bring Gorgon back to life using her DNA, Earth science, and the magic box they use to give themselves super powers. And since she doesn't like Maximus any more she goes along with it. Black Bolt already warned him that if anyone goes in the magic box twice they might go crazy or something, but he doesn't beliee that. So they put Gorgon in the box.
|
"Durr, I'm big dumb Black Bo- he's standing behind me, isn't he?" |
Then there's a bunch of explosions and fights and stuff and Black Bolt captures Maximus, but it turns out Maximus has installed a failsafe that will destroy the moon if he dies. Also I'm pretty sure most of the lower-class people and former slaves are still on his side, so it's not like killing him is just going to put everything back how it was. Also Gorgon's alive again, but he's gone crazy, probably. And I'm pretty sure there are too many loose ends here to tie up in a satisfying way with only one episode left to go.

Actually it's Gorgon's monster. |
