Star Trek: Discovery - Runaway

Being so short, there's not a lot to this episode. It's fine, I guess, though it does annoy me that Tilly keeps the whole thing secret, because that's dumb and obviously only happened because they wanted to make the story be just about her - for both creative and budgetary reasons. The real problem there is that if they'd set it outside the ship, she could have had good reasons for dealing with the whole thing herself but it makes no sense on the Discovery.

She's also got retractable spines on her back.
Anyway, the episode starts with an alien sneaking onto the ship. But she can turn invisible so no one notices. Except she cuts herself so her weird orange blood gets on the floor and Tilly notices her. They spend most of the episode just talking to each other; Tilly talks her into going home and in the process I guess she learns to have confidence in herself or something. Honestly, I had trouble paying attention.

Funny?
There's a bit where Tilly tries to explain to some other crew members why the canteen's all messed up that I guess is meant to be funny, but mostly it's just like the B plot to a kids' cartoon. Like, Captain Planet or something. While the main story would be about stopping one of the bad guys from doing some pollution, there's a parallel story about believing in yourself. I don't know, I haven't even seen Captain Planet in probably twenty years. Also it turns out that the alien is a queen and the thing she was running away from was her impending coronation.

And she still doesn't alert her superiors.
