Marvel's Inhumans - Behold... The Inhumans & Those Who Would Destroy Us

This is a weird show. In just this first double-episode I'm already on the side of "bad guys". The "good guys" are portrayed as personally nice and the definite underdogs, but Maximus is just right about everything. But the message the show seems to be sending is "know your place and respect your betters".

Why would you send this guy instead of someone who looks normal?
So the show begins with Triton, a green dude, trying to rescue a girl who's being chased by men with guns. He tells her that she, like him, is an "Inhuman", and offers to take her to their home on the moon. Before she can tell him to fuck off the guys with guns show up and shoot him a bit. He runs away and jumps into the sea.

Next we're introduced to our main characters for the rest of the episode There's Black Bolt, the king of Attilan, the city on the moon. He and his court live in luxury while those without super powers are forced into a lifetime of hardship and manual labour. I mean, he's obviously the bad guy, right? He's basically Cyclops from the X-Men except it's his mouth instead of his eyes, so instead of needing special glasses he just doesn't speak.

This is how the aristocracy live.
There's his wife, Medusa. She's got magic hair that she can control, but she gets it all cut off about half way through. I'm expecting it to grow back over the course of the season just in time for her to do something cool either in the finale or maybe episode six. She's 100% in favour of the status quo and that's about all there is to her.

The power of plot convenience.
Karnak has some weird power that seems to just do whatever he needs it to at the time. One time he tells a servant why they shouldn't date, another time he runs through simulations of a fight to predict the best way to win it, later on he projects a compass in the air. He's another Monarchist.

Gorgon is some kind of reverse minotaur. He's human except that he has hoofs. He also seems to have enhanced senses and can do a sort of ground-pound attack. Add him to the designated "good guy" list.

Dog big.
Medusa's sister Crystal has maybe telekinesis? Also she owns a really bad CGI dog that can teleport.

And finally, our true hero, Maximus, played by Barry Simon from Misfits. He's the designated bad guy because he wants to overthrow the aristocracy and liberate the slaves. Seriously.

Long live the king.
There's also a woman who works for NASA and is the only one who believes moon men are real, Maximus's sidekick Auran, who has some kind of healing power, and a psychic kid who makes cryptic predictions that Maximus is obviously going to rely on only to realise too late that he misinterpreted them.

Yeah, this mute, costumed weirdo is probably just here to shop.
The best thing about the episode was watching Black Bolt blunder around Earth being this crazy mute guy. The worst thing was how obvious it was that I'm supposed to hate Maximus. I don't and I won't. He's right and he deserves to win.

This is how the poor people live.
At the end of this first double-episode Maximus is in power on the moon and has the support of the people, the monarchists are scattered on Oahu and Auran is hunting them down. Also NASA woman got sent home for talking about moon men. Oh, and the guys with guns from the start are apparently working for Maximus, so I guess they're in on the hunt too.

Seriously.
