Using public transport

You get an a tram and find that there are already quite a few people there, but still a few seats left. Where to sit should be obvious, but some people seem to consistently get this wrong.

So here's the situation:
As you can see, there are still plenty of free spots to sit, and more importantly, still some seats on which absolutely no one is sitting. Two free seats together.

The key here is to avoid sitting either directly beside or opposite anyone.
But some people don't seem to get this. Some people get on the tram and sit right next to you.
Why would you do this? Don't sit there, there are empty seats! Get out of my goddamn space! You people should be banned from public transport.
