WrestleMania

Overall Rating: ★★★○☆☆☆

This show was long, slow and bad - with, it must be said, a few high points. And the main event of day two was actually totally worth watching. It's just a pity they spent so much time on boring bullshit and advertising. After all the day-two hype on day one, I was really looking forward to at least not getting that on the second day, but then they used that time to recap day one instead which was worse.

Saturday: ★★★○☆☆☆

  1. Smackdown Tag Championship (Nakamura Shinsuke & Rick Boogs vs. The Usos)
    ★★★○☆☆☆
Slow start. I was just never going to be enthusiastic to see Nakamura and Boogs. I used to like both of them (back when they were each individually on NXT) but neither has been any good for a long time and putting them together certainly hasn't helped.
  2. Singles (Happy Corbin vs. Drew McIntyre)
    ★★★●☆☆☆
This feud feels like it's been going on forever, with no end in sight. It really holds Corbin back from being entertaining and it's not doing McIntyre any favours either.
  3. Logan Paul
    ★☆☆○☆☆☆
  4. Raw Championship (Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch)
    ★★★○☆☆☆
Very repetitive. A lot of covers and repeated moves and I didn't get any sense of momentum. Also weird that it happened now instead of being the main event.
  5. Singles (Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes)
    ★★★●★★☆
Weird that they were still pretending this was a surprise after audiences had been chanting "Cody" at Seth for weeks. And I don't get why Rollins is Cody's opponent. What have they got against each other? They both just seem like they wanted to be at WrestleMania, so they got that by turning up. What's the conflict? Cody didn't even show up like "I'm back to show you all up" or anything like that - and if he had Seth Rollins would not have been the one to stand there in defence of the WWE's honour. Was a really good match, but just a random match for no reason.
  6. Ronda Rousey
    ★☆☆○☆☆☆
  7. No Holds Barred (Kevin Owens vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin)
    ★★☆○☆☆☆
Way too much faffing about before the match. They didn't even make it an unscheduled brawl or anything; it was an actual match that they both came there to have. And despite Owens working really hard to make Austin look good, he just didn't. He should have stayed retired. And this definitely should not have been the main event.

Sunday:
★★★○☆☆☆

  1. Riddle
    ★☆☆○☆☆☆
  2. Singles (Omos vs. Bobby Lashley)
    ★★☆○☆☆☆
There is some fascination in just seeing a person that big, but eventually he's got to do something to hold my attention. And Omos doesn't seem to be able to do much.
  3. Anything Goes (Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville)
    ★★★●★☆☆
It would really have increased my enjoyment of this match by a lot if Pat McAfee would just shut the fuck up. Jesus fucking Christ the man is annoying. I was very entertained by what was going on in the ring, but it took an effort of will to ignore the fucking awful commentary.
  4. Women's Tag Championship Fatal Four-Way (Naomi & Sasha Banks vs. Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley vs. Shayna Baszler & Natalya vs. Carmella & Queen Zelina)
    ★★★●★★☆
It immediately struck me that there isn't even a single named tag team in this contest. They're all just random pairs of singles wrestlers who I guess are friends now for some reason. And they're still doing the dumb rules (have to be tagged in by an opponent) for four-way tag matches. But despite all that, it was a really fun match.
  5. Singles (Edge vs. AJ Styles)
    ★★★●★☆☆
I understand this story. Edge wants to prove he's better and nastier than ever before, so he needed to get AJ all riled up to be as tough as possible so that no one would doubt him. Makes sense. I'm just not feeling it though. And it seems like maybe the writers also thought there was something missing, to judge by how this one ended.
  6. Tag Team (Sheamus & Ridge Holland vs. New Day)
    ★★☆○☆☆☆
Woods and Kofi were really cool for the three minutes the match lasted.
  7. Austin Theory
    ★☆☆○☆☆☆
  8. Championship Unification (Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns)
    ★★★●★★★
If you'd told me a year ago that this would not only be the best match at WrestleMania but that it would also be the one I was most invested in and most looking forward to, I would have thought you were crazy. But it turns out that all that's been missing in the past was they were on the wrong sides of their conflicts; with Brock as the face and Roman as the heel, I fucking love it.
