Banana blossoms - fake fish?

I saw these tinned banana blossoms in the supermarket and was curious to try them as the can said they could be used as a substitute for fish in, for example, fish and chips. Why not? Could be all right.

It was not all right. It was bad. If I had to say something positive about them, it's that they do, when cooked as directed, look a fair bit like fish. They do not taste like fish and they certainly don't have the texture of fish. Texture-wise, they're more like a soft pickled onion. Flavour-wise, they're bad. Sort of sour and faintly bitter? Bad. Very bad. I cooked up the whole lot (only about 200 g, because apparently the serving size on the can assumes you're going to drink the water) and I did not finish them. Even deep frying them and serving them with mayonnaise doesn't make them even close to good. They're just bad.
