WWE Royal Rumble

Overall Rating: ★★★●★☆☆

Most of this show was pretty good, even despite the fact that I wasn't particularly interested in any of the storylines. The women's Rumble was fun (although not a standout over all), but the men's Rumble was pretty disappointing. I'm never going to dislike a battle royale, but these weren't the best.

  1. Universal Championship (Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins)
    ★★★●★★☆
I wasn't expecting much from this match but it was actually pretty cool, and I even enjoyed the ending.
  2. Women's Royal Rumble
    ★★★●★★☆
There was a lot to like about this match. Really wasn't expecting to see Mickie James acknowledged as IMPACT champion. Of course, it would have been cool if she'd won it and followed through on her promise to put her title on the line against a WWE championship, but I never thought there was any possibility of that.
One low point was the winner. Someone unexpected from outside of the WWE winning it is cool (Britt Baker would have been the dream, but obviously there was no chance of that. Imagine if she had been no. 30 though?) and technically it was that. Just... not her. Oh well, the match was still good (even despite being a little slow in places due to the large number of retired wrestlers taking part).
  3. RAW Championship (Becky Lynch vs. Doudrop)
    ★★★●★☆☆
This one was fine, I guess. Thing is, I don't care for Lynch's current gimmick, and everything about "Doudrop" has been shit. Just scrap it and pretend she's always been Piper Niven, I say.
  4. WWE Championship (Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley)
    ★★★●★★☆
By Brock Lesnar standards, this was incredible. By regular standards it was still good. Did not mind it at all.
  5. Mixed Tag (The Miz & Maryse vs. Edge & Beth Phoenix)
    ★★★●★☆☆
I want to like this one more than I did, but it was just ok.
  6. Men's Royal Rumble
    ★★★●☆☆☆
Now this was a disappointment. It didn't help that this show was super long so there's a bit of fatigue setting in by the end, but this match just wasn't good. No one interesting in it; absolutely predictable ending; not even a cool elimination avoidance. It wasn't bad - I don't think a Royal Rumble could be bad - but it was somehow the least fun/interesting part of the show.
